international Nano-Optoelectronics Workshop
21-31 July 2025
Wrocław University of Science and Technology
Poland
During the iNOW 2025 conference, we spent almost two weeks in Wrocław, Poland. Despite it being the middle of summer, the weather was quite pleasant, allowing us to enjoy both the lectures and visits around the city.
The event gathered 139 participants from both academia and industry, representing 15 countries: Armenia, Australia, China, France, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland, Israel, Japan, Germany, Poland, Sweden, the UK, Italy and the USA. It was primarily addressed to young researchers who constituted more than 50% of the participants (43 of the attendees were students and PhD students).
During the conference, 54 invited talks were delivered, in which authorities from leading groups and institutions all over the world presented the current state of global research in the general field of nano-optoelectronics, and many related areas from novel materials, through device technologies and advanced measurements, to recent discoveries concerning new properties of nanomaterials and their applications. In addition to attending the lectures, young scientists had the opportunity to present the results of their own research during two poster sessions, each preceded by short oral presentations. Six of the young researchers’ presentations were distinguished by the evaluation committee with the best poster awards. The presentation of original research results enabled direct interaction and opportunity for in person discussions of the young researchers with the renown specialists, facilitated the exchange of knowledge and experience, and supported the establishment of research collaborations.

In addition, company visits organized during the conference to Lower Silesian nanotechnology enterprises (Fluence Technology sp. z o.o., Nanores Sp. z o.o. Sp. k., XTPL S.A., Łukasiewicz Research Network – PORT, Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research PAS, Wrocław University of Science and Technology) attracted considerable interest among international guests.
After the conference concluded, a survey was conducted among the participants. The conclusions drawn from this survey provide valuable guidance for the organizers of future editions of the iNOW conference and, at the same time, demonstrate that both, the scientific content of the event and the venue, were very positively evaluated by the participants.

The international Nano-Optoelectronics Workshop (iNOW) has been held in various locations around the world, including Beijing, Berkeley, Berlin, Munich, Shenzhen, Stockholm, Tokyo and Würzburg. Since 2006 iNOW serves as a premier forum for researchers and technology leaders in semiconductor nanostructures, optoelectronics, and photonics. In July 2025 this international summer school will take place in Wrocław, one of the most beautiful cities in Poland. It will be hosted by Wrocław University of Science and Technology, with the Institute of Low Temperature and Structure Research PAS and Changchun Institute of Optics, Fine Mechanics and Physics CAS as co-organizers.

The program will be based on lectures given by world-renown scientists and industry representatives, combined with poster sessions where young researchers will have the opportunity to present their achievements and to discuss the results with experts in the field. It will be complemented by visits to scientific laboratories, leading industrial sites in the area, and an attractive social program, including guided tours around Wrocław and Lower Silesia.
iNOW 2025 is financially supported from the state budget of Poland allocated by the Minister of Science and Higher Education under the Programme “Doskonała Nauka II” and by CAS–ANSO and Bimberg Chinese-German Center for Green Photonics within grant No. CAS-ANSO-C2A-2024-03
